Yagipan
A moment to unwind in the city.
Located in Katsura, Nishikyo Ward, Yagipan is a takeaway bakery serving buttery, flaky croissants, flavourful French loaves, and a broad selection of savoury and sweet breads.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Grabbing a tray at Yagipan reveals shelves lined with approachable, modestly sized bakes that make it easy to sample several varieties in one go. Situated in a residential pocket of Nishikyo Ward, the bakery is particularly well regarded for its croissants, which shatter with a crisp crunch at every bite. Alongside the classic buttery croissant and bite-sized mini versions, the display includes everyday table loaves like savoury shiopan (salted butter rolls) and rustic baguettes that foreground the natural flavour of the wheat.
The savoury and sweet selection is equally wide-ranging. Appetite-piquing savoury options feature a mildly spiced baked curry bun stuffed with potatoes, rolls spiralled with bacon and cheese, and cheese focaccia. On the sweeter side, classic custard cream buns and pain au chocolat share counter space with matcha cream buns paired with white chocolate, almond-flecked brioche, and buns filled with tender sweet potato—all kept to compact, manageable proportions.
Operating as a takeaway-only shop, Yagipan opens from morning through the afternoon from Thursday to Sunday. A dedicated free parking area alongside the road makes it convenient to drop by by car, and payment is cash only. Trays can thin out significantly toward the evening, making earlier hours the ideal time to catch the widest selection fresh from the oven.
